About the Owner

My name is Adrien Akers, and I am the owner and operator of Dragonglass Cattery, which I’ve proudly operated since 2021. I am happily married to my best friend, and a mother of two wonderful children. My background includes certifications in CNA and Phlebotomy, along with extensive coursework in nursing, health sciences, biology, and human anatomy—knowledge that has proven invaluable in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals. I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree, with a double major in Criminal Justice and Sociology. Beyond the cattery, I enjoy gardening, Swimming, kayaking, volleyball, softball, hiking, traveling, attending MLB games, tutoring students, and am actively involved in my church and community, including assisting with coaching at my daughter’s gymnastics academy.

My passion for animals began in early childhood, and it continues to grow stronger. This cattery is more than a business—it’s a lifelong dream and a true personal blessing.

Dragonglass Cattery was born from a deeply personal experience. My daughter and I longed for a kitten of our own, but both she and my husband suffered from severe cat allergies. Determined to find a solution, I began researching hypoallergenic cat breeds and discovered that Balinese cats produce significantly lower levels of Fel d 1, the protein responsible for allergic reactions.

Through that discovery, I fell in love with the breed. My goal became clear: to help families like mine—who struggle with cat allergies—experience the joy of feline companionship. Dragonglass Cattery is dedicated to offering beautiful, affectionate, and allergy-considerate kittens to loving homes.

Our journey into Maine Coons began with a joke from one of our close friends. She often told me that I needed to start breeding Maine Coons because she already had a waiting list of people who would be interested. What started as a lighthearted conversation quickly became something we seriously considered. As we discussed the possibility, it seemed that Maine Coons began appearing everywhere. Multiple Maine Coon breeders crossed my path, and opportunities kept presenting themselves. It almost felt like fate was pointing us in that direction. Truthfully, I have always admired the Maine Coon breed. We grew up around Maine Coons, and they remain a part of our lives today through family and friends who own them. Their beauty, intelligence, and gentle nature have always stood out to us.Maine Coons are truly magnificent cats. Their impressive size, luxurious coats, and majestic presence make them one of the most recognizable breeds in the world. Even more remarkable is their temperament. Affectionate, loyal, intelligent, and often described as “dog-like,” Maine Coons have a way of winning over everyone they meet. In our opinion, few breeds can match the combination of temperament, personality, and regal appearance that the Maine Coon possesses.
